A terminal is a command prompt used to enter Unix commands. It is similar to, but much more powerful than, the Windows cmd.

Opening a Terminal

There are several ways to open a terminal. You can do so remotely (see the Remote Login section). To open a terminal within gnome, go to Applications -> Accesories -> Terminal.
